He transferred to Norton Lees FC then onto Handsworth FC and also having trials with Rotherham United. Lewis completed a 1st year scholarship at Chesterfield FC and was offered a second term but opted to sign for Matlock Town with the opportunity to progress through the Club development pathway. He has played for Sheffield Wednesday and had recent trials with Chesterfield FC and Rotherham United. Piper is a natural leader showing a strong presence on the field of play either playing at centre half or in a defensive midfield role. He is currently captaining the Academy side and progressing well in the Reserves squad.

Manager Mark Hume said “I’m really pleased that both lads have done well and progressed at the Academy and I’m looking for them to be involved with the first team in the future.”

MTFC Academy first team coach Jamie Yates said “This shows to our academy players and future students there is a goal to be achieved here at MTFC. Both players have impressed of late and deserve their chance, from my experience they now have to work even harder than what they have to impress Mark Hume and progress as footballers.”

Both players will start engaging in the development process with the first team and it’s great to see these two young gentleman make the step up.
