I’m sure as you are all aware from Social Media, we are extremely pleased to be hosting the annual Jamie Walker’s charity match that’s now in it’s 9th year of taking place and we spoke to Phil Walker who is not only Jamie’s dad but all so an ex Gladiator who gave us a low down on the history behind this fantastic event.

Sunday September the 28th 2014 3pm kick off is a date every football and TV Soap programme must not miss. Former Chesterfield & Matlock Striker Phil Walker and son Jamie (who also played for Matlock & belper) bring their 9th annual charity football match to Matlock Town’s Autoworld Arena. Jamie was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma (cancer of the lymph glands) in 2005 when he was playing for Belper Town, he had to undergo one year of treatment at the Kings Mill cancer unit, the treatment was a great success and Jamie who is now a fully qualified commercial pilot and fly’s as a senior first officer for Atlantic airlines has been in remission for seven years and still has to undergo six monthly checks. The previous eight charity games have raised over £100,000 in money that has been spread to several children and cancer charity’s .Phil and Jamie will put together a team of soccer legends to play the once upon a smile TV soap star charity football team (www.charityfootball.co.uk) they are captained by former Emmerdale and now Scott & Bailey star Danny Miller and will include stars from Eastenders, Cronation Street, Emmerdale farm and other soaps. There will be a chance to meet the TV Soap Stars and soccer legends for Sunday brunch (details to be announce) and even a chance to bid to manage and play alongside the soccer legends on the hallowed Autoworld Arena pitch. There will be a auction on the day with some great sporting memorabilia,all proceeds from the game will go to the once upon a smile charity and the Kings Mill hospital cancer ward that still looks after Jamie.”
