Matlock Town is pleased to announce the signing of twenty four year old defender Chris Salt from Grantham Town.
Salt learned his trade in the academy at Sheffield United – he is a staunch Blades fan – and has since played for Worksop Town and Buxton FC in the Evo Stik League, and Gainsborough Trinity in the Conference North where he played under current Gladiators manager Dave Frecklington before joining Clipstone Welfare and then making the move to Stamford AFC in the 15/16 season playing in the Daniels fantastic Emirates FA Cup run that year that saw them come up against Hartlepool United in the first round proper.
Salt joined Grantham Town in November of this season playing ten times for the gingerbread men before deciding to make the move to the Gladiators after Frecks’ came calling.
Manager Dave Frecklington said the following about the move “Chris is a player who has worked with Terry and me in the league above and was unfortunately in the same category as Gregg in rupturing his ACL. He’s got good game time this season to improve his rehab and now a change of manager at his previous club and a shortage of competition at centre half now was the time to strike. He’s another ticked off the wish list for next season as long as his performances are consistent. He’s only 24 and compliments Yatesy and Dwayne. With Ashton attracting all sorts of attention from the EPL now is the perfect time to get a player of Chris Salt’s quality into the building. A great character for the changing room but more importantly a winner who wants to improve his game.”
Salt had the following to say about joining the Gladiators “I’m glad to have joined such a top club and hopefully be part of great things to come! I’m buzzing to be back playing under Frecks and Terry and also working with Chris for the first time.”
