“The Manager writes”…….
I’m really excited now our first season in Ladies football is eventually upon us, albeit rather late for my liking (as we didn’t start until 4th October) !
Over the summer I’ve been actively recruiting new players to join a core set of young players moving up to play senior football from last seasons Matlock Town Juniors U18’s squad. We’ve now built a strong mix of young and more experienced players that should help balance the team. With a good half of the squad new to the team the early matches will be a bit of a learning experience as the team get used to how each other play, but I expect to see us getting stronger as we move through the season and the girls gel together as a team.
An unexpected re-scheduling of the fixtures at the start of the season has meant that we were left without a match for the first 2 weeks! Not the best preparation for our 1st real game ; an Inter-Divisional cup match on Sunday 4th October against a Woodlands Ladies side that are a Division above us! However we produced a great performance on the day and, although it ended with a 3-2 defeat, we were actually 2-0 up halfway through the 2nd half!
I always try to take away the positives from a match and it’s really encouraging for me to see the enthusiasm & commitment we put into the game. If we can keep this momentum going I can see us doing really well this first season.
