Matlock Town Ladies : A new era for Matlock Town FC……

As part of the football development programme at Matlock Town, the first ever Ladies football team is being formed this coming season to play in the Derbyshire Ladies League. The team will be formed from the existing Matlock Town Juniors U18’s team, the main core of which have been playing together for the last 4 years within the junior section of the club.

The team has been run since its creation at U14’s level by coaches Glenn Dalton and Richard Hancock, both moving up with the team into the adult section with Matlock Town FC. During this time the team reached 5 cup finals and ended each season within the top 3 in the league. Not a bad resume to enter the Ladies League with.

Glenn says “These are exciting times for the team, as we move into adult football and join such a highly regarded local club. We are a young team, which may well prove challenging this coming season as we are up against much older, stronger and wiser players, but it provides a great opportunity for the existing players to develop and for new players to come along and strengthen the squad.”

“We also have a strong female football development strategy here at the club with several junior girls teams currently playing. These teams will eventually feed through into the Ladies Senior side as we move forward.”

“The ladies team is also looking for sponsorship for a new kit, so if anyone is interested in helping us get off the ground I’d be delighted to discuss some possible options.”

Trials for new players will be held over the summer, so any players wishing to come along and join would be very welcome. For all enquiries, including junior female players if you wish to join our junior section teams, please contact Glenn on 07471 200806 or email : glenn.dalton@sky.com.
