Utility player Wayne Diuk looks to be on his way out of the Geoquip Stadium, with British Gas Premier Division club Corby Town looking favourites to sign him.

Diuk joined the Gladiators last March and slotted in comfortably to either a right back or central defensive position as Matlock made it to the end of season play offs. But Nottingham based Diuk is believed to be moving further south with his job and there is a strong Kettering Town connection at the Rockingham Triangle, with Diuk being a regular for the Poppies before his move to Hinckley United from whom he joined Matlock.

Corby, who escaped what looked to be a certain relegation at the end of last season, are believed to be splashing the cash, with former Kettering Chairman Peter Mallinger moving up the road, where he will be joined by ex Poppies manager Kevin Wilson. Diuk's arrival at Matlock proved to be timely as Steve Circuit missed the last couple of months of the season with a calf injury and the news on Circuit is encouraging.

"He's coming along nicely" said joint boss Phil Brown. "He's had a scan and it was found he had multiple tears in his calf but he's rested it and is now doing some light work on his own. We wanted Wayne Diuk to stay with us but his job has somewhat dictated where he'll be playing his football next season and he leaves us with our best wishes."

Discussions have taken place with the unnamed former Football League player Brown and fellow joint boss Gareth Williams are hoping to persuade to join the Gladiators.

"Negotiations are ongoing and in fact we're pretty hopeful of two new signings" Brown confirmed.

Meanwhile former Matlock goalkeeper Matt Taylor, has joined Blue Square National outfit Exeter City from Team Bath, but as a central defender. While he was at Matlock, it was believed that Halifax Town were wanting him to join them as a central defender and it was believed that Taylor was in fact a better central defender than a goalkeeper! Taylor was part of the Matlock squad which finished as UniBond First Division runners up and Derbyshire Senior Cup winners in 2003/04 and was named as the Supporters Player Of the Year.

Away from first team matters, Matlock have linked up with current Matlock League side Matlock Youth in an attempt to give local youngsters the chance to represent their local club, and possibly follow in the footsteps of Wirksworth based Gary Webster in earning a contract and playing at UniBond level.

Gladiators' official Alan Smith, who played a pivotal role in talks with Matlock Youth commented

"We see this as an excellent opportunity for younger players to play under the banner of our club. This is a good step for both the players involved and Matlock Town Football Club. The lads are currently in the 16 to 18 age group and will continue at the moment to play in the Matlock League as Matlock Town Youth. This will in turn give them the chance to become part of our under 19 side and also the chance to play in the FA Youth Cup. Dave Apperley, David Bates, Mark Taylor and Andy Baker have all been highly involved and there's been a great deal of interest from local youngsters already ".

Meanwhile the constitution of the UniBond Premier Division for next season is in confusion with the possible demise of Scarborough who may end up playing in the Northern Counties East League.

. The Seadogs secured an adjournment of a winding up petition pending a full meeting of Scarborough Borough Council on June 19, after the Council had initially rejected the club's proposals to sell their McCain Stadium in a bid to clear their massive debts.

Matlock will be hoping Boro survive to play in the UniBond League as memories of great battles of thirty years ago will be revived, including that never to be forgotten 4-0 FA Trophy Final victory for the Gladiators in April 1975. The Scarborough game should also attract a healthy gate to the Geoquip Stadium.

Should Scarborough fail to survive at UniBond level, it is thought that Kings Lynn might switch from the British Gas Premier Division, even though it is reported that the Linnets are firmly against making the move north.

The situation might have been complicated even further, but local businesses came to Leek Town's rescue when it seemed that the Staffordshire club would also cease to exist at UniBond level.
