Martin started playing football at the age of 8 years old, beginning as an outfield player and progressing into goals at the age of 13 years old. At the age of 13 Martin had many trials, Leicester City, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday before signing for Rotherham United. He had two good seasons with them before moving to Leicester City were he was released at 16. From there he joined local NCEL Premier side at the time Teversal FC where he played 2 years in the U19’s and 1st team. He was also enrolled onto the Chesterfield college football programme where he spent 3 years in education. Martin’s final year playing in the U19’s saw him sign for Matlock Town where he also signed 1st team forms and made a couple of appearances for the Gladiators. From there on Martin moved on from Matlock and signed for Staveley MWFC. Martin has also has short spells at Parkgate, Shirebrook Town and Arnold playing in the NCEL. He has also represented Sheffield United playing in their reserve/u21’s league up until being 23 years old. Martin then had a year out signing for local sides in the Sheffield county senior league, Frechville and Sheffield athletic and played when he could to a company his new job role. This season Martin came back to Matlock Town after speaking with Mick throughout the summer.
