Matlock Town is pleased to announce that seventeen-year-old midfielder Harry Wood has signed first team forms with the Gladiators.

Wood began his career with Chesterfield FC at the age of seven playing for the Spireites for nine years before getting released and joining MTFC’s Academy where he quickly impressed and moved his way up the ranks making his debut for the first team in last seasons penalty shoot-out defeat in the Integro League Cup second round against Basford United, playing 90 minutes and scoring his spot-kick in Town’s 9-8 shootout loss becoming one of the youngest ever players to do so.

Wood said the following to the local press when speaking about the club and his hopes for the future, ““Matlock has a really good setup, and all of the coaches have helped me. They’ve made me a better player and I’ve matured quicker than I thought I would. I just want to do as well as I can for the first team. I think I did well enough to get noticed, hopefully, the managers will pick me again. I want to push on and make more appearances.”
