ASHBOURNE  2   V MATLOCK TOWN RESERVES  4

Matlock Town Reserves visited Ashbourne Town who recently had success in the Derby City League finishing runners up.

The newly formed Matlock side managed by former Town players Glen Kirkwood and Craig Hopkins had a chance to see if all there hard work in training was about to pay off.

Ashbourne scored within 15 minutes of the first half and it looked to be one of them days when one of the young Gladiator strikers limped off.

Matlock settled and got themselves back into the game with Dan Bridges equalizing, then putting Matlock in the lead, this was short lived, with Ashbourne equalizing.

The second half was a different game,  Matlock having the better of possession and looking the sharper they increased there lead through Rob Fretwell and then Stephen Atkinson making the final score Matlock Town Reserves 4 - Ashbourne Town 2.

SHIREBROOK U19'S  2  V  MATLOCK TOWN U19'S  0

The first of a run of friendlies saw Matlock take on the newly promoted Shirebrook, who's team consisted of 3 first team players.  Matlock's young team was not phased by this, dominating the first 25 minutes until Shirebrook scored on one of the few breaks they had.  This was made worse when young Jack Barker for Matlock chipped the keeper, the ball clearly 2 ft over the goal line, but the goal was not given, due to the lack of linesman.  The teams went in for half time with Shirebrook up 1 - 0.

Matlock started the second half slowly with Shirebrook increasing their lead to 2 - 0, after this it was one way traffic, Matlock had several chances to get back into the game, and dominating the last 20 minutes but failed to covert chances.

Credit due to this Matlock team with seven 16 year olds playing, they showed real maturity and great promise.

Matlock came out for the second half fired up and James Lawton equalized.  This quickly followed by Lawton threading the ball through to Luke Beatson who lobbed the keeper to put Matlock in front.  After this Matlock dominated the game with Lawton adding 2 further goals to complete his hat-trick.  Welbeck scored late on but the game was sealed at this stage with the final score Welbeck 2 - Matlock 4
