Matlock Town is pleased to announce the return of twenty-two-year-old left back/left midfielder Rhys Sharpe.
Sharpe was a Derby County youth graduate and in April 2013, Sharpe signed his first professional contract on a two-year after he completed his two-year scholarship programmes. On 13 March 2015 he was loaned to League Two side Shrewsbury Town on a month’s youth loan, four days later he would make his professional debut starting in a 4-1 victory for the Shrews before having his loan extended until the end of the season.
At the end of the season, Sharpe returned to his parent club and was released.He joined Notts County on a two-year contract on 2 June 2015. He was released by mutual consent on 12 August 2016.
On 6 December 2016, Sharpe joined League One side Swindon Town where he would make his debut in the EFL Cup.
Sharpe is a Northern Ireland U21 international, playing a total of seven times as well as representing his country at U19 level in the NI Milk Cup.
Sharpe would join the Gladiators in March of this year for his first spell with the club scoring a stonker of a volley on his debut against Stafford Rangers and has spent pre season receiving interest from clubs higher up the football pyramid but has decided to make the DCJ Group Insurance Arena his home once more.
