The young Gladiators recorded an excellent victory against league 1 title chasers Retford in the North Midlands League cup quarter final on Thursday night. Both sides produced some superb football and Matlock took the lead on 7 minutes through skipper for the night Tom Evans after some good build up play from James Travis , Dec Jenkins and Jordan Holland .Retford replied 10 minutes later with a superb strike which gave Myles Wright in the Town goal no chance.

The second half was just as close an affair as the first but Matlock edged it with two good goals from Adam Clarke and Ben Harrison to book their place in the semi of the trophy they won two seasons ago.

They will meet either Staveley, Hallam or Southwell all teams in the division above the Gladiators in the semi final but having already disposed of fancied Dunkirk and now Retford in previous rounds they will not be afraid who they face.

A special mention of thanks to goal scorer and Skipper for the night Tom Evans for all his efforts last season and this as the eighteen year old leaves us to pursue a career in the navy all of us at the club wish him well!
