Matlock Town midfielder Liam Needham was full of regret and was scared he might never play for the Gladiators again following his outburst in the changing room after the 2-1 defeat at Grantham on September 26.
Needham was left out of the team beaten at Mickleover Sports three days later but was restored to the starting eleven for the successive home wins against Ashton United and Rushall Olympic.
Now Needham wants to put the incident behind him and concentrate on playing well for the Gladiators.
“I instantly regretted it, I was totally out of order and I realised very quickly I was in the wrong” Needham admitted.
“I couldn’t apologise enough to Mark (Hume), a manager I have total respect for, I love playing for him and Matlock Town and there was the possibility I might not be able to do that anymore. I apologised to him and the players and told Mark I would do everything I could to play for Matlock. Mark said that was just the attitude he wanted from me, I’ve no excuses and I just want to put all this behind me.”
That sentiment is shared by Hume who said “it’s all water under the bridge now and we’ve moved on.”
