Elliott signs on loan from the Spireites

Matlock Town are delighted to confirm the loan signing of exciting young striker Gunner Elliott from Chesterfield.
The Gladiators have fought off competition from several clubs at step two and three to sign the 17-year-old, who recently signed his first professional contract with the Spireites and has been a prolific scorer in their academy side whilst also featuring in the first team squad.
He has also gained international experience with Malta’s U17 and U19 squads and was called up to their provisional senior squad for this summer’s World Cup qualifiers.
Matlock owner David Hilton said: “We have a strong set of 14 to 15 players but are keen to bring in other lads who are ready to go whilst letting fringe players go and get minutes elsewhere.
“We’ve beaten off lots of competition for Gunner and he will boost the squad hugely. We are keen to keep the squad fresh at a hard time of year without interrupting consistency, as we don’t want to repeat the situation we had last year. We’ve been getting good results and have a settled side so don’t want to upset that.”
