Funeral detail's for Gladiators stalwart Ken Forbes

Funeral details for late Matlock Town stalwart Ken Forbes have been released following his death earlier this month.

Mr Forbes used to walk regularly from his Brassington home to clean the Causeway Lane ground after each home match and then walk back again. In the early 1980’s Ken’s love for walking and the Gladiators was emphasised when he undertook a sponsored walk from Bakewell to Matlock in aid of the club’s new floodlights appeal and arrived at the ground close to the interval of a local derby with Burton Albion. For good measure, Ken did a lap of honour at the ground.

His funeral will take place at 3 pm on Friday 3 September 2021 at Markeaton Crematorium, Derby.

The hearse will make a trip around the Proctor Cars Stadium ground at 2 pm before heading to the crematorium.

“Ken was a tremendous servant to the football club, it would be great if as many supporters as possible and anyone who knew Ken could come to the ground and say farewell to Ken and give him a tremendous send-off” said a Matlock spokesman.
