Gladiators set to resume their NPL season!

Matlock Town will be resuming their NPL season at Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday.

Club officials had been in contact with their Stalybridge counterparts after it was announced that the NPL had given consent for matches to be played this Saturday if both parties were in agreement following an announcement earlier that a limited number of fans would be allowed back in grounds.

The spectator limit at Matlock’s level is down to 300 from the 600 allowed in the earlier part of the season.

Matlock fans however will not be able to travel to Stalybridge under current Covid legislation and the same will apply for the Boxing Day trip to Buxton.

Town Chairman Bryn Apperley is glad that football is back up and running again but regrets the reduced attendances.

“I’m happy football’s back, being behind with our fixtures means that we need to be playing but it’s not ideal with the reduced number of fans permitted to come to the stadiums. Unfortunately that’s how it is at the moment and it’s something we’ll have to put up with.”

The Gladiators’ next scheduled home game is on New Years Day versus Gainsborough Trinity and Matlock will be making an announcement regarding admission to the game in due course.
