Gladiators set to welcome Sheffield FC for preseason fixture

Matlock Town have added a further game to their pre season schedule as they welcome Sheffield FC to the Proctor Cars Stadium this coming Tuesday night (7.45 pm).

Manager Paul Phillips recognised that his squad needs further game time after two of their games had been cancelled.

Sheffield are the world’s oldest football club and will be playing the Gladiators for the third successive season. Two years ago the game ended scoreless at Matlock when Gladiators goalkeeper Jon Stewart saved a penalty, was injured and Phillips had to don the goalkeeping gloves for the second half. Last summer Matlock were 3-1 winners at Sheffield’s Dronfield headquarters.

The Gladiators host Derby County under 21’s on Friday night (7.45pm) before concluding their pre season preparations on Saturday week with a trip to Carlton Town who like Sheffield, ply their trade in the NPL Eastern Division.
