Hall joins Premier League Sheffield United

Matlock Town is very proud to announce the transfer of defender Ashton Hall to the English Premier League side Sheffield United.

Ashton joined the Gladiators over 2 & half years ago and as a first-year student with the Academy saw his football skills develop and before long he was made captain.

He also played for Matlock Town reserves in the CMFL and again was captain seeing the club winning a Derbyshire Divisional Cup and being runners up in a very competitive league.

He trained regularly with the First Team before signing his first contract on October 2018 and made a number of appearances in the NPL Premier Division which attracted scouts from EFL clubs to show an interest in his capabilities.

Ashton had trials at Leeds United followed by a 2-week assessment at Sheffield United and then a decision was made and both clubs agreed to terms for him to join them once the transfer window kicked in for July.

The Transfer has now been completed and Matlock Town will receive an undisclosed compensation payment for the development time he has spent with the club.

Gladiators Chief Executive Keith Brown said he was delighted for Ashton who was joining his dream club and his very supporting family on completion of the transfer after all of the hard work he carried both on and off the pitch which now provides him with the chance in the professional game with such a great club as Sheffield United with whom we have enjoyed an excellent relationship over very many years.

Ashton goes with our very best wishes and will always be very welcome at the Proctor Cars Stadium.
