Murphy departs to join Guiseley AFC

Striker Kallan Murphy has opted to leave Matlock Town to sign for Guiseley and link up again with former Gladiators manager Paul Phillips.
The Yorkshire club put in seven days notice of approach for Murphy and once the time was up, Guiseley spoke to Murphy who decided to leave the Proctor Cars Stadium.
Murphy scored four goals in 19 appearances after a delayed start to his career due to a prolonged process of the Gladiators receiving international clearance for the Irishman.
Matlock Chairman Jay Beaumont explained the reasoning behind not offering Murphy a contract which might have brought some financial recompense for the Gladiators.
“We’re disappointed to lose Kallan but that’s always a risk with non contracted players. Ideally Kallan’s a lad that we would have loved to put on a contract but unfortunately we were given legal advice not to do so due to a potential significant liability that could have arisen from his previous club so we couldn’t take the risk.”
