Skipper Adam Yates was presented with the Matlock Mercury sponsored Supporters Player Of the Season award at the Gladiators’ Presentation Evening in the Shorts Lounge on Friday night.

It was a case of deja-vu as Yates won the award last year and after collecting the trophy from the Mercury’s Mark Duffy, he reflected on what turned out to be a disappointing season for Matlock.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their support, it’s not been the best of seasons for us and we’re all disappointed with the way things have turned out. It’s not been for the want of trying but we must put this season behind us and see who the club appoints as manager and go from there.”

Central defensive partner Dwayne Wiley collected a watch supplied by C W Sellars (Jewellers) after winning the Players Player award and the sixteen goals netted by Craig Westcarr earned the former Nottingham Forest and Notts County striker the top scorer award, sponsored by Steven Greenhough.

Goalkeeper Ross Durrant was named as the Gladiators young player of the season while Emma Statham was named as Club Person Of The Year for her work on the catering side and running the tea bar.

The goal of the season, as voted by attendees at the event went to Michael Williams, a bright spot in a frustrating season for the midfielder which had been curtailed by injury.

His equaliser in the 2-2 home draw with Basford United edged out Jonny Margetts effort against Mickleover Sports.
