Wakefield comes in on loan from Spireites

Matlock Town boss Paul Phillips has swooped to sign Charlie Wakefield on a month’s loan from Chesterfield ahead of tomorrow night’s trip to Warrington Town.

The 19 year old can play either centrally or on the left of midfield and also at left-back which should suit Matlock’s needs with Spencer Harris beginning a three match ban and Ben Gordon on the injured list. Luke Dean will also begin a suspension after the Warrington game.

Derby born Wakefield began his career in Chesterfield’s academy making his debut as a substitute in April 2017 in an EFL League One defeat by Scunthorpe United. In all he has made three senior appearances for the Spireites and has had a previous loan spell at Sheffield FC.

“We’re grateful to Chesterfield FC for the help they’ve given us in getting this deal over the line and it again demonstrates the strong links and healthy relationship between our two clubs” said a Matlock spokesman.

Phillips is hoping to confirm a further addition to his squad before setting out for Cantilever Park tomorrow.
