Wiles moves to Scarborough Athletic for undisclosed fee

Matlock Town Chairman Jay Beaumont says the club has accepted a very good offer” from National League North Scarborough Athletic for midfielder Alex Wiles.
The 26-year-old will be moving to the Flamingo Land Stadium for an undisclosed fee.
Wiles joined Matlock during the summer of 2021 having had previous NPL Premier Division experience at Buxton and Gainsborough Trinity, while earlier in his footballing journey he was with Rotherham United for whom his brother Ben plays. It is the second time that Seadogs boss Jonathan Greening has wanted to sign the box to box midfielder for he was vying for Wiles’ signature when he joined Matlock.
He hit 7 goals in 62 appearances for the Gladiators, six of the goals coming this season.
Mr Beaumont expressed regret at Wiles moving on but says that having received a very good bid for Wiles, it was left for the player to make his own mind up.
“Alex has been a great player for the club, one who we didn’t want to lose . We have in fact rebuffed previous offers for him but when higher league clubs come in with what is deemed a very good offer then we have to allow the player to make the decision. Alex goes to Scarborough with our very best wishes,we thank him for his outstanding efforts at Matlock Town and wish him all the best in his future career.”
