Midfielder Barnes is recalled by Basford United

Midfielder Josh Barnes has been recalled by parent club Basford United from his loan spell with Matlock Town.

Ambers boss James Jepson made the approach after Basford were defeated 2-0 at the Proctor Cars Stadium on Tuesday night in a game where Barnes was not allowed to take part.

Barnes scored twice in his 11 appearances for the Gladiators and their boss Martin Carruthers fondly remembers his second goal during the 2-2 draw with Workington on October 14.

He said: “A big thank you to Josh for all of his hard work and effort while he was with us. He’s a talented young man who certainly added value to the team during his short spell at the club.

"He covered numerous positions and has that flexibility with his left foot to cover the left side of the pitch. I loved his goal in his last home game against Workington.

"He goes back to Basford with our best wishes and good luck to him for the rest of the season.”
