Brisley first new face through the door for Law

Nicky Law's first new recruit as Matlock Town manager is experienced central defender Shaun Brisley who has more than 350 Football League appearances to his name.

The 34 year old makes the short move along the A615 from National League North neighbours Alfreton Town having played 34 times for the Reds in his one season at the Impact Arena. Brisley was at Buxton prior to signing for Alfreton, playing 44 matches during the previous campaign for the Bucks.

Macclesfield born, Brisley joined his home town club as a thirteen year old before making his first team debut in March 2008 against Notts County. He went on to play 124 times for the Silkmen and then made 78 appearances for Peterborough United following an initial loan spell. After further loan spells at Scunthorpe, Northampton and Leyton Orient, Brisley joined Carlisle United before completing his Football League career at Notts County and Port Vale. He joined the Wrexham revolution in the Football Conference but left after playing four games before joining Buxton.

Renowned as a defender with strength, physical presence and discipline as described by Port Vale coach David Kevan, Law says he fits the bill perfectly as he aims to improve the Gladiators fortunes.

"He's a good, good old pro, very experienced, a leader who'll be great in the dressing room being a great help to the younger lads. He's a signing I really wanted to complete and I'm absolutely delighted to get him over the line, he'll be a great addition."
