Cartwright extends stay with Carruthers' Gladiators

Matlock Town have offered terms to midfielder Ethan Cartwright for the upcoming 2023/24 campaign.

Cartwright, (21) was signed by manager Martin Carruthers in February from NPL Premier Division rivals Guiseley having had a loan spell at Belper Town earlier in the season. He is versatile as he can play in any position across the midfield, a quality that is clearly appreciated by his manager.

“He’s a great lad with a great attitude, a box to box player with tons of energy. I feel there’s lots more to come from him for he can play in any position in the midfield area. He did well at what was a difficult time for the club. I feel there’s goals in him, more assists in him and will get better going forward.”

Cartwright began his career at Walsall aged 16 and later was at Welsh club Cefn Druids before moving to Chester, having a loan spell at NPL Western Division City of Liverpool while at the Deva Stadium. He was named in the English Colleges side in 2019. Based in Stoke he is a personal trainer at Nuffield in the city and joins Crewe based John Johnston in the 2023/24 Gladiators squad.
