Raising funds for a place to remember at Ashgate Croft School

At this weekend's pre-season friendly with Chesterfield, fundraising will be taking place for the Ashgate Croft School Reflection Garden.

Ashgate Croft School is launching a heartfelt campaign to raise funds for a special memorial garden— a peaceful, reflective space to remember the pupils and staff the school has sadly lost over the years.

This garden will be a place of comfort, filled with warmth, love, and cherished memories, where the school community can come together to reflect and celebrate the lives of those who made Ashgate Croft such a special place.

One of the inspirations behind the garden is Lucy, a beloved pupil who sadly passed away last summer.

Lucy was the daughter of Carla Millan, a player for Matlock Town Ladies, and her story has deeply touched many hearts.

Both Lucy’s mum and grandmother work at Ashgate Croft School, making her loss especially poignant for the entire school family.

Lucy’s grandmother and mum shared moving words that capture the spirit of the memorial garden beautifully:

She said: “Lucy loved attending Ashgate Croft School and especially loved the productions and her first prom.

“It would be lovely to have somewhere to sit in school and remember Lucy and her special times in school.

“The reflection garden at Ashgate Croft would mean so much for not only myself but everyone at Ashgate who played a part in Lucy’s life. She always lit the room up with her beaming smile and the reflection garden would give everybody a place to go and remember their beloved memories of Lucy and others the school has lost.”

The proposed garden will be a serene space with seating, plants and areas to reflect. It will be a tribute not only to Lucy but to all the pupils and staff who have been part of the Ashgate Croft story.

The school invites the community to support this special project, whether by donating, spreading the word, or joining staff at future fundraising events.

Together, it is hoped they can create a lasting tribute that honours the joy, laughter, and love the students and staff brought into each other’s lives.

Both Lucy and Carla are Spireites and loved watching the matches together.

Staff and friends of Ashgate will be bucket shaking at the Matlock Town v Chesterfield FC match.
