Sharman pens new Gladiators deal!

Defender Jamie Sharman has wasted no time in confirming his allegiance to the Gladiators cause by signing a new contract.

The 22 years old former Chesterfield defender featured in all but four of Matlock’s NPL Premier Division fixtures during 2022/23 and it was his first league goal that catapulted Town into the play-offs, his 56th minute header at Marine doing the trick.

While at Chesterfield, Sharman was named as their Academy player of the year in 2018/19 before graduating to the first team squad. He had loan spells at Dover Athletic, Kidderminster Harriers and Blyth Spartans prior to his release by the Spireites in the summer of 2021. Matlock quickly stepped in and Sharman has quickly become a fans favourite with some fine performances in their back line having made 71 appearances to date.

Matlock manager Martin Carruthers has been hugely impressed with Sharman.

“Sharmo’s had a fantastic season and has hardly missed a game since we came to the club, whether it be at right back or in the middle. He’s still only 22 and he’ll certainly be a key player for us next season. He’s shown a consistency in churning out good performances in each game he plays being part of a back line that has kept so many clean sheets so I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve got the deal sorted so early.”

Sharman is the latest in a long list of ex Spireites who have made a successful switch to Matlock.
