Matlock boss Carruthers thrilled as McDonald signs

Matlock boss Martin Carruthers has swooped to sign full back Kornell McDonald and subject to FA and NPL approval, he hopes to include him in the Gladiators squad for Saturday’s trip to Bamber Bridge.

Carruthers is excited to have secured the 22 year old’s signature and believes he could once again play full time football later in his career after playing seven first team games for Derby County when Wayne Rooney was the Rams’ Head Coach.

“Kornell’s an absolutely fantastic signing for us, a good strong right full back who now has a real chance to get his career back on track here at Matlock. This is a real coup for the club, we can’t wait to see him in action for us . He could easily return to playing full time again. I’m sure the fans will be eager to see him pull on that Matlock shirt and they’ll no doubt give him a warm welcome.”

Since being released by Derby, McDonald has been in non league with Kettering Town, Bedford Town, Redditch United, and Ilkeston Town but Matlock have brought him in from National League North Gloucester City.
